Born in 1951 is presently Associate Professor (Reader) in the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, Punjab University Chandigarh, Punjab (INDIA).
Having done his B.A. Honours (History) from The Govt. College, Chandigarh and M.A. History from the Punjab University he was awarded the degree of Ph. D. in 1980.
He has distinguished himself as a deep researcher in Ancient Indian Numismatics, Epigraphy, Art and Political and Social History. He has to his credit more than 40 research papers published in reputed Indian and Foreign Journals. Besides hismagnum opus, The Rise and Fall of the Imperial Guptas, published in 1989 there are four more books authored and/or edited on various subjects of Indological Studies. A life member of several academic bodies, he has widely traveled in India and abroad.
